HISTORYOpen or CloseDesert Friends of the Developmentally Disabled
In September of 2009, Desert Friends of the Developmentally Disabled (DFDD), a 501(c)3 non profit, public benefit charity was created to address the needs of the developmentally disabled population in the Coachella Valley.
DFDD conducts seminars on Special Needs Trusts and Conservatorships. Several other programs are being developed – Public Awareness Program; a Best Friends Forever Program, paring a high school or college student with a special needs child or adult to take them to the movies, bowling, shopping, or just out for a few hours. Many of our adults have no outside connections, and this will allow them to become socially active.
DFDD has an affiliation agreement with University of Phoenix. As DFDD is engaged in several fundraising efforts, the students are very instrumental in volunteering their time and energy to make these events a success.
DFDD presently conducts two major fundraisers during the year. The Great Santa Run is held in December. The Annual Tea and Fashion Show will be in February of each year.
